The Abomination is one of the playable Character Classes in Darkest Dungeon.
Unique Attributes
Unlike other heroes, the Abomination has two forms, Human Form and Beast Form, each with own set of skills. He starts the battle in human form and can use Transform to switch between forms. Transform is a free action, allowing the Abomination to use another skill immediately afterwards. Transform may be used twice per battle, allowing him to switch once to beast form and back.
Entering beast form inflicts Stress on all allies. Additionally the Abomination will suffer 6 Stress at the beginning of every turn when he is in beast form.
The Abomination will automatically revert to human form at the end of the battle, or whenever he gets afflicted. Reverting to human form heals a (very) small amount of stress from his allies.
Combat Skills
“ | Beaten, branded and imprisoned for untold decades, this furtive vagrant hides a terrible secret. The Eldritch poison coursing through his veins has given him unspeakable power, at a terrible cost. As his form changes, so too does his role in combat! | „ |
~ Guild |
The Abomination's seven skills are divided between his two forms: each form has three unique skills, with Transform being shared between them. Unlike other heroes, the Abomination can have all seven skills equipped at the same time, and newly recruited Abominations will have all their skills unlocked.
Though Transform is a single skill, it has different effects for each form so it is listed as two separate skills in the sections below for better readability.
(All buffs and debuffs last for 3 rounds unless otherwise specified.)

Notes
- Transform can be used twice in total, once to transform into Beast form and once to transform back to Human form.
Camping Skills
“ | The Abomination spends his restful moments lost in the myriad symptoms of his condition. Pulse-pounding self-buffs provide opportunities for even greater effectiveness in the next melee, while concentrating on suppressing his terrible impulses can alleviate some of the party's apprehension. | „ |
~ Survivalist |
Camping skills are special skills heroes can use while they are camping. They take a certain number of "respite" points to use, and can only be used once per camp (unless the skill says otherwise). Most heroes have three shared camping skills and all heroes have 4 unique camping skills (with the Flagellant being the exception, having only unique camping skills). Only 4 of these can be equipped at one time. Any Buffs or lasting effects given from a camping skill lasts for 4 battles.
Most of the Abomination's camping skills grant him powerful buffs, but generally at the cost of extra stress for himself and/or his team, only his self speed buff doesn’t follow this rule. He also has a companion stress heal ability similar to the Jester’s Mockery.

Equipment
“ | Protected by cursed chains and a thick, leathery hide, the Abomination can withstand the pressures of frontline combat as well as any plated footman. His terrible claws are each the size of daggers, and his progressive mutation manifests in unspeakable strength, speed, and a profusion of bile. | „ |
~ Blacksmith |
Unlike other games, equipment upgrades in Darkest Dungeon are linear, all bought at the Blacksmith.
Each Hero has Trinkets unique to them that only they can equip. The Abomination has seven; 2 uncommon, 2 Crimson Court and 1 common, rare, and very rare. In the base game, his trinkets are all padlocks. The Crimson Court DLC adds a cloak and chain, while the Colors of Madness DLC adds a broken key.

The Crimson Court DLC added special Trinket Sets, two for each hero. They confer powerful bonuses to the hero equipped with them, and having both equipped at once yields an additional bonus, which is shown greyed out at the bottom. The origin dungeon for all Trinket Sets is the Courtyard and they all have the rarity Crimson Court. The Shieldbreaker Trinket Set, however, is only obtainable through her final 6th and 7th nightmare encounters and won't be dropped or given as a reward in the Courtyard. Trinkets you already have will stop dropping, so there's value in not selling the ones you don't like until you get the ones you want.
The Color of Madness DLC added trinkets with a new rarity, Crystalline. Each hero has their own unique crystalline trinket which can be bought from Jeweler inside the Nomad Wagon with Crystal Shards found within the Farmstead.

District Bonus
The Crimson Court DLC adds Districts to the Hamlet, some of which confer passive buffs to heroes.
The table below lists all of the currently available buildings that can be constructed within Hamlet's Districts, the cost of doing so, and the benefits of each individual project.
The gold cost of most Districts in Radiant mode is significantly reduced. The price in Radiant mode is shown in parentheses.

Name | Image | Effect | Cost |
Outsiders Bonfire | 2 additional Respite Points if you have at least one Abomination, Hellion, or Leper in your party. Note: the stated bonus is granted as long as the party contains at least one hero that meets the criteria; the party will not receive extra respite points for bringing more such heroes. |

Trivia
- The predetermined name of the Abomination is Bigby, likely a reference to the character Bigby Wolf, a werewolf from the comic series Fables and the popular game based on it, The Wolf Among Us.
- The Abomination hero class was designed by Josh Lauer, a Lord-Tier Kickstarter backer. [1]
- The idea for the Abomination came from werewolves, which Josh Lauer is a fan of.
- The name of the Abomination's highest level armor, Inhuman Bondage, is also the name of the patch that he was added in.
- Based on some of his barks, before his mutation, the Abomination spent time as a scientist and in a monastery.
- If the Abomination transforms into his Beast form, then returns to Human form, and the player exits to menu or the game and returns, the transformation can be used again.
- In prior versions of the game, the Abomination could not be in the same party as religious characters (Crusader, Vestal, Leper, Flagellant). This behaviour has been revoked since The Color of Madness update.
- The Abomination is the only class to have two Virtuous sprites, one each for his Beast and Human forms.
- The concept of the Abomination being cursed by an eldritch poison in his veins that cause him to transform into a beastly monster is similar to that of the video game Bloodborne, where a city's population is similarly cursed to turn into beasts after using blood from eldritch deities.
- The Abominations camping skill 'The Quickening', as well as the bark that accompanies it, is a reference to the 1986 film 'Highlander'.
