One of the most powerful and flexible front-line Heroes in Darkest Dungeon II, the Flagellant is capable of absorbing large amounts of damage, inflicting Blight on any rank, and healing himself and his allies.
The Flagellant's unique skillset balances high risk with high reward—many of his skills are sacrificial in nature, inflicting HP and sometimes Stress damage on himself, and some of his strongest skills are only available when below certain health thresholds. Accordingly, much of the Flagellant's gameplay involves managing his health pool and ensuring that he can always be pulled back from the brink if necessary. Most of all, take care not to get overconfident when using the Flagellant: no matter how unnaturally powerful his abilities, or how capable his teammates, Death is always lurking around the corner.
Unique Attributes
Death (Miniboss)
Having defied her one too many times, Death—the mini-boss, that is—may personally ambush the party whenever the Flagellant is present. Though the Flagellant is a powerful class, care must be taken to ensure that he and the rest of the party do not fall prey to Death, or death, on their journey to The Mountain.
Toxic
Upon reaching 10, the Flagellant cannot become Resolute nor suffer a Meltdown, but will instead become Toxic, with the following effects:
- Add Toxic token.
- with all other party members.
- Clear all skill cooldowns.
- -10% RES (until next Inn).
- All paths except Scourge: Set to 30%.
- Scourge: Set to 45%.
- Scourge: +1 Dealt (until end of combat).
Toxic (Token)
The Toxic token itself has the following effects:
- Apply 2 to attackers when hit per token
- Duration: Until end of combat
- Limit: 3
Pain
A self-healing token unique to the Flagellant.
- Consumed at the end of the turn, healing the Flagellant.
- Duration: 1 Turn
- Limit: 3
Skills and Paths
The Flagellant starts the game with Punish, Fester, Deathless, Endure, and Lash's Gift. Additional skills must be unlocked through the Shrine of Reflection.

Trivia
- The Flagellant is a hero returning from the first game.
- Of all the returning heroes, the Flagellant has changed the most dramatically, becoming a Blight-focused character instead of Bleed, with a much decayed appearance.
- There is a placeholder image in the game files which depicts Flagellant in his previous Bleed-focused form.
- His default name, Damian, in reference to Peter Damian, an Italian monk and cardinal who introduced self-flagellation as a method of religious discipline.
- Despite his appearance, the Flagellant is not an undead, since Death failed to take him: his appearance is due to his own self-abuse and neglect, to the point of his blood becoming toxic and his face falling off (or being deliberately removed).
- Flagellant's Signature Inn Item Pain Box is a reference to Frank Herbert's novel Dune.
- The Torturer in the Vestal's fourth memory has been confirmed to be the same character as the Flagellant.[1]
