Unimaginable: Takes up all enemy slots. No enemy leaves behind a corpse of this size.

Note: Shambler Tentacles, Weapon Racks, Spiked Barricades, Sacrificials and Cabin Boys are the only non-boss enemies that do not leave behind corpses. A full list of enemies that don't leave corpses can be found later in the article, however it contains spoilers. Read at your own peril.

Dealing with corpses

Nearly every enemy in Darkest Dungeon II leaves behind a corpse which takes up a slot on the enemy party. This cannot be prevented with Damage Over Time or Critical Hits like in the previous game (however, the Murder Weapon trinket exclusive to the Academic's Study node can prevent a corpse from appearing if the effect triggers on a killing blow). As a result of the disruptive nature corpses have, as well as the interactions some enemies have with them it is heavily advisable to bring skills or combat items that clear corpses.

Corpse clear

There are several methods of clearing corpses in Darkest Dungeon II, below are listed all the methods.

Trinkets

Trinket curio murder weapon.png Murder Weapon
Note: This is more of a rare case, as this trinket doesn't directly target or clear corpses by itself, however it can prevent corpses from appearing if its effect triggers from an attack that would've killed the enemy normally.

Corpse properties

Unlike in the previous game, corpses inherit resistances from the enemies they came from and have unique health values based on the target that was slain instead of having a fixed amount of HP based on the size of the corpse. Enemy corpses can also be affected by battle modifiers, such as Sturdy or Hale, which respectively grants them more HP or increased resists.
