The Ghoul is an enemy in Darkest Dungeon II encountered in all regions except The Mountain.

Description

The horrifying Ghoul can be found throughout an expedition, typically in road battles and at the Chirurgeon's Table. Returning from the first game, this behemoth is capable of inflicting heavy damage, stress, and disruption to your team, as well as being able to lower your Flame, a unique ability among non-boss enemies.

The Ghoul attacks the heroes by swiping at them with his gargantuan hands, pelting them with thrown skulls, or screaming at them. His innate Block Block Tokens are regained every time he acts, which compensates for his middling health for a size 2 enemy. Due to Ghoul's decent speed stat and the disruption he causes to your team, it can be very difficult to keep him under control, so parties are likely to leave Ghoul fights with high stress and possibly some diseases. One Ghoul is bad enough, pray you don't run into two of them in the same encounter.

Trivia

  • The Ghoul is one of a very few enemies without an Enemy Type. This is possibly a bug, as the Ghoul typically appears alongside Gaunt enemies.
    • Despite not being a Gaunt, the Ghoul may still appear in battles at the Chirurgeon's Table, and even has his own unique Leucotomy buff — showing that the Chirurgeon, at least, seems to consider him part of the family.
