Enemy Type
Enemies in Darkest Dungeon may belong to certain types. There are many trinkets, skills, and quirks interact with enemy types, with both positive effects (e.g. increased damage and accuracy) and negative (increased stress and decreased accuracy). A single enemy may belong to multiple types.
Human
Humans are one of the most common types of enemies, and can be divided into two groups:
- Cultists, Brigands, and Madmen are frequently encountered in each of the game's main regions, making humans the most widespread of all enemy types. They are equally weak to
Bleed and
Blight, and deal
but not
. - Region-specific human enemies, Fungal and Swine, appear in the Weald and Warrens, respectively, and in these regions humans are nearly a majority of all enemies. Both Fungal and Swine enemies have high resistance to
Blight.
The following is a list of all human enemies:

Beasts will assault you with bleed, blight, disease and even lower your immunity to disease. Many of them will also cause Stress while trying to infest you with their maladies, such as the Swine Wretch and Carrion Eater.
The Hound Master's Hound's Rush does extra damage to Beasts, and some Trinkets give a hero bonus damage against Beasts.

Unique types

Trivia
- Eldritch is the most popular type, with 40 different enemies in the base game having that type. Ignoring unique enemy types and enemies not found within the base game, Unholy is the least popular with a mere 17 enemies.
- The Crimson Court DLC adds 4 new Eldritch enemies, bringing the total up to 44. The new type Bloodsuckers had the lowest population, with only 12 enemies. The Husk type, introduced in The Color of Madness (DLC), is currently the type with the lowest population; it has 13 enemies, but only 6 of them are non-unique.
- Bloodsucker is the only non-unique enemy type in the game that does not have a Quirk based around it.
- At some point, Red Hook Studios considered making Unholy enemies immune to
Bleed.[2]
